My Approach to Weddings
It’s difficult to stand apart from other photographers in a few paragraphs, I hope more that my past works speak volumes so here goes nothing… First thing to say is i’m pretty damn lucky, I genuinely love photographing weddings. The morning of any said wedding I'm struck with excitement, fear or maybe a healthy mix of both because I care about the process and always have the end product in mind. The day those emotions disappear, I’ll likely consider a career change. Until then, let me explain my approach.
I’m not fond on putting myself or my style in a box of set rules - It’s not what us creatives like doing! However what I can say is I take a documentary approach to weddings whilst being as unobtrusive as possible. I prefer to blend with wedding guests, allowing me to capture events as they unfold in the most natural way possible. The only time i’ll shuffle people about is for the main group photographs - Apart from this, I prefer to be unseen for the majority.
This is paired with my want to create something a little more unique from image to image, whether that be filling the frame with action or actively looking for openings in the crowds to photograph through. The main bride and groom photographs are often more elaborate, show stoppers whilst the majority of my wedding day work is finding pockets of activity in and around the wedding party.
My style of photography is what I hope most people hire me specifically for. I unapologetically process with bold colour and contrast, a theme that has always ran through my craft. I almost exclusively work with the lighting within my environment - This being the big ball of fire in the sky and any venue lights - I want to photograph each scene I stumble across in it’s natural form. I’ll only use flashes at night time or during the bride and groom shoot for a little bit of added drama.
Getting Ready
Nerves are high but so is excitement! Bridal (Or groom) prep is always a mad dash to capture everyone getting ready along with all the little details like the wedding dress and flowers
The Big ‘I do’
Got to be my favourite part of the day but equally the most scary if i’m being honest! It’s difficult not to just smile throughout the entire ceremony…
Just You Guys!
We will set aside a few moments to capture them photos of just you two. There won’t be any complex posing requests - Laughs and quirkiness only please!
