Hi, i’m Matthew.
I’m a fairly laid back guy living in the picturesque county of Lancashire. Rolling hills, fell woods and rain every day, it’s not too bad. Back in 2010 I chose photography as an A level simply to take the stress off my more intense subjects. That, paired with a close friend who was a freelance photographer and often passed me her camera, eventually led me to realising there was nothing else I wanted to do but take pictures. Since then, I’ve lived and breathed photography.
I’ve dabbled in most genres of photography, but in regards to commercial work, it’s absolutely weddings. Most avoid them for this reason, but I love the pressure! Whereas I’m the total opposite when it comes to landscapes photography. The peace and quiet seems to resets me, gives me time to unwind. Unless I’m running uphill because I woke up late for a sunrise…
Since I started in photography I’ve completed a B.A. (Hons) in Photographic Media and continued onto complete my teaching qualification as well as teaching photography to first year university students. Formal papers to the side, anything where I get to use a camera for a living makes me feel pretty blessed if i’m honest.
Outdoors photography was likely always going to be the route I ended up down due to my childhood. I was lucky enough to travel Europe every summer holiday with my family that likely sparked the want to explore - camera or not. I’ve been to both ends of Africa, Iceland, Norway and the majority of South-East Asia in recent years.
Other than the photo talk, I’ve got a black Labrador named Zeek who’s quite possibly the best photo assistant out there. (Should of opened with this, people love dogs...) And I’m a massive film buff, to the point that if photography ever does fail, I’ll likely break into the scene of film reviews!
Please contact me for any further information or just for a chat about photography, I’m always happy to!
