Hobbit Hill In Clitheroe, Lancashire
Lily & Sam’s Wedding
Hobbit Hill Wedding Photography
Lily & Sam’s wedding at Hobbit Hill was one of those days that instantly reminds me why I love photographing relaxed, outdoor weddings. From start to finish, the emphasis was firmly on enjoying the day, surrounding themselves with their favourite people.
This was a mostly outdoor wedding, including the ceremony itself, which is always a huge win from a photography point of view. Hobbit Hill’s woodland ceremony space, set beneath a natural canopy of trees, provides beautifully soft, even light that’s incredibly flattering and perfect for photographing away quite freely with little stress. These outdoor, summer weddings always just hit perfectly, guests and vendors love them equally I believe!
When I first started chatting with Lily & Sam about their wedding plans, there was a big emphasis on the evening celebrations. They were genuinely excited about the party, the dance floor, and ending the night with a bang. That energy and anticipation carried through the entire day and built beautifully as the evening approached.
The couple’s love of country music played such a big part in shaping the atmosphere. Not only did they love it, they fully enforced it on the dance floor, which resulted in a lively, energetic party with barely a quiet moment. The dance floor stayed busy all night, and the combination of great music, enthusiastic guests and relaxed planning made for some brilliant, high-energy evening photographs. - The props they added like cowboy hats sealed the deal.
As a documentary-style wedding photographer, days like this are ideal. Nothing felt staged. Instead, the day unfolded naturally, giving me the freedom to focus on genuine interactions, fleeting expressions and those in-between moments that often end up being the most meaningful images from the day.
The Venue Itself
Hobbit Hill in Clitheroe is a truly picturesque wedding venue and one of my favourite local spots to photograph. Nestled in the Lancashire countryside, it offers stunning scenery, rustic charm and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere that suits laid-back, outdoor-focused weddings perfectly.
One of Hobbit Hill’s biggest strengths is its setting. Rolling hills, lush greenery and wide-open views surround the venue, creating a sense of space and calm that’s hard to beat. The outdoor ceremony areas are particularly special, especially in good weather, offering couples the chance to exchange vows surrounded by nature rather than within four walls.
The venue’s woodland areas and open fields provide endless opportunities for natural, unforced couple portraits. There’s no need to travel anywhere else on the day, as everything you need is right there. From shaded paths beneath the trees to open spaces catching the golden light later in the day, Hobbit Hill offers a variety of backdrops within a short walking distance.
Inside, the reception space has a warm, inviting feel with rustic details and earthy tones that photograph beautifully, particularly as the light drops in the evening. It’s a space that feels intimate without being cramped, allowing guests to relax, mingle and enjoy the celebrations without feeling restricted.
Seasonally, Hobbit Hill works brilliantly year-round. In spring and summer, the venue comes alive with vibrant greens and long evenings, perfect for outdoor ceremonies and sunset portraits. Autumn brings warmer tones and a slightly moodier feel, which pairs beautifully with the surrounding landscape. Even on cooler days, the venue retains its charm and offers plenty of sheltered areas for photography.
Being a local venue, Hobbit Hill always holds a special place for me. It’s one of those locations that consistently delivers visually while also allowing couples to create a day that feels personal rather than overly formal, I’ve even done a Vikings themed wedding years back here. Because of that, I always get a little excited when a new couple gets in touch to say they’re planning their wedding here.
